Ryan Spencer, Artistic Co-Director & Vice President of the Board
Ryan Spencer is a professional trumpet player, composer, arranger, and educator. He has 20 years of playing experience, and recently earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at CU-Boulder. Ryan plays with many ensembles around the Front Range including the Colorado Symphony, and is a member of the Denver Philharmonic, Cheyenne Symphony, Denver Brass, and Colorado Brass. He completed his Master’s of Music at DU with Prof. Alan Hood in 2016, and currently studies with Justin Bartels of the Colorado Symphony.
In addition to his own private studio, Ryan has taught Bluecoats brass for seven years, and helped them achieve their first-ever DCI championship in 2016. He marched two years of Santa Clara Vanguard as lead trumpet and soloist, and reprised this role with the 50th anniversary SCV Alumni Corps in 2017.
Mr. Spencer is fluent in music theory, composition, aural skills training, and conducting techniques. He uses a musically comprehensive style of teaching, and is available for private lessons with students of any age.
Ryan will be performing his second doctoral recital on Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 7:30pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Denver. It will be an all trumpet and organ recital with repertoire including Mahler’s 5th Symphony, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and works by Tomasi, Persichetti, and Ravel.
